Some times people hang in for various reasons; children, financial reasons, feelings of being obligated to try a little harder or do things differently.

OK, GIVEN THAT YOU ARE THE ONE THATS TRYING TO MAKE THINGS WORK, HOW DO YOU EFFECTIVELY COMMUNICATE TO YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER WHEN IT SEEMS LIKE YOU BOTH ARE ON 2 TOTALLY DIFFERNT PAGES? HOW DO YOU BRIDGE THE GAP? PROFESSIONAL HELP? GOD? TIME? WHO OR WHAT DO YOU TURN TO?

I would say counseling, but a lot of people can't afford that. So they turn to the church, but personally I think the couple just needs to ultimately turn to eachother for help and support. And if you can't depend on the person you love to help you and support you, then there's no reason to stay.

THAT MAKES SENSE. MORE THAN OFTEN MOST PEOPLE JUST LEAVE IT IN GOD'S HANDS. THATS NOT ENOUGH IF YOU ASK ME. IMO GOD WILL GUIDE YOU, NOT DO WHAT YOU NEED TO DO FOR YOURSELF.

That's understandable. But most people only call upon God when they need help with something. They rarely thank him when everything is fine.

It's not name calling if it's the truth.

There are different reasons a person chooses to remain in an unhealthy and/or dead relationship. When there are no children involved, living situation or anything that would require a long and drawn out break up the only thing I can think of other than fear (when it's really complicated) would be the hope of getting back the person you initially met and/or fell in love with. I'm sure we can all agree that in the beginning it is all good! So when the relationship goes sour, deep in our hearts and minds we want that person back.

I AGREE WITH YOU WHOLEHEARTEDLY BUT PEOPLE CHANGE, SOMETIMES FOR THE BETTER, SOMETIMES FOR THE WORST BUT THEY CHANGE. WHO ARE WE TO TRY TO STOP SOMEONE FROM GROWING TO A PERSON THEY CHOOSE TO AND NOT THE PERSON WE'D LIKE. SOME PEOPLE GET INTO RELATIONSHIPS FOR THE WRONG REASON AND WITHOUT PROPERLY DEALING WITH WHATEVER BAGGAGE THEY MAY HAVE. THIS TYPE OF PERSON ISNT COMPLETE AND THEY GOT INTO A RELATIONSHIP HOPING THAT PERSON WOULD COMPLETE THEM. SOON AS THEY REALIZE WHO THEY REALLY ARE THEY EMBRACE IT AND THIS IS WHEN THEY MAY START ACTING DIFFERENT TO YOU AND YOU START WONDERING WHY THINGS HAVE CHANGED.
