Some of us have successful careers and others have to struggle to make things happen. Some of our parents used to make sacrifices so that we could do more and excel in life where our parents may have fell short. We all want what is best for our children but, do we expect too much from them? Do we put too much pressure on them to be the best? Here is an example in case you need clarification; Little Johnny starts walking early and speaking early, he takes to reading well and is just the best in his class in pre-school, kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade. He does well and you are proud. Do you continue to push your child into reading more difficult things and trying to get him to re-write formulas for your excel spreadsheet? Or do you just let the child be a child?

Personally, I know I have gotten a lot of pressure from my parents. There were so many things that I wanted to do when I was younger but my mother felt it wasn't going to take me anywhere so I had to do what she wanted me to do. I still end up doing what she wants me to do because she deems it necessary to be a success. It never mattered what I wanted to do, it was all about just what she wanted me to do.

So in your case, yes. Your mom had very high expectations for you, regardless of what you wanted. They always preface it with, "we only want what's best for you!"

I KNOW THAT IM HARD ON MY KIDS BUT I TELL THEM THAT I AM BECAUSE THE WORLD WILL BE TWICE AS HARD. I KNOW WHAT THEY ARE CAPBALE OF AND THEY EXCEL IN SCHOOL SO I EXPECT GREAT THINGS FROM THEM BUT I ALSO REWARD THEM FOR THEIR HARD WORK AND EFFORTS. I DONT WANT THEM TO FULFILL THE DREAMS THAT I NEVER DID, I JUST WANT THEM TO SUCCEED IN LIFE AND THE BEST WAY TO DO THAT IS TO BE PREPARED.

Hey, do what you gotta do. lol You already know it's not easy for me to be good. That takes a lot of effort!!!!
Anyway, I try to encourage my daughter to do her best and go beyond because I know she is capable of it. Then once she gets it, we celebrate.
